Buyers beware

A quick search on ebay turned up 788 listings for ‘haunted doll’ with prices ranging from £3 to £350…yes three hundred and fifty pounds sterling. The large sum in question will buy you a ‘haunted porcelain doll, used’. Thats it. No other explanation for shelling out your hard earned cash other than the promise of a used doll. £3 buys you a cuddly toy with the promise, again that it is ‘used’, and for a mere £70 you can aquire a doll who’s spirit will knock on doors and laugh. The listing carries a grim warning not to open the doors she knocks on.

It seems that the choice here is either to pay your money and obtain a doll that is just that – a doll, feel a fool for paying a premium for no reason at all; or pay the premium and find that the doll in question terrorises you and your family and unleashes something truly demonic into your home.

Why would someone sell such an object? Greed and personal gain? or to pass on the problem? If it is greed and personal gain this is nothing short of a con (assuming objects can be haunted, how many times have you actually come across a haunted boject in your lifetime so far? so how many of these 788 haunted dolls on ebay are actually haunted?). If the purpose of the sale is to pass on a problem to someone else then why charge at all? Either way the morality is questionable. It seems to us that the sale of haunted dolls and artifacts is morally dubious at worst and designed to take your hard earned cash in return for empty promises at best. If you want to be kept awake by strange noises in the night then we would suggest you save your money and buy a hamster.

We could of course be wrong and would be really interested to hear about your experiences with haunted dolls and artifacts that you have bought.
